Resident Infotainment Systems Manager (Automotive IVI)

This is a senior, on-site resident role acting as the technical and project interface between automotive customers and global development teams. You will represent the infotainment organization directly at the customer site, ensuring smooth technical operations, issue resolution, project coordination, and customer satisfaction across one or more automotive IVI programs. The role requires deep expertise in in-vehicle infotainment systems, strong project and people management skills, and the ability to operate confidently in a Japanese OEM / Tier-1 environment with international teams.
Responsibilities
Act as the dedicated on-site representative for automotive infotainment programs
Serve as the primary technical and project point of contact for the customer
Oversee IVI system architecture, including software and hardware aspects
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, escalating when required
Maintain and support test systems and validation environments
Coordinate between customers, global development teams, and internal stakeholders
Support project management activities, ensuring milestones, schedules, and deliverables are met
Manage product releases, documentation, and change coordination
Present regular reports on project status, risks, technical issues, and customer feedback
Identify and implement process improvements within the assigned scope
Build and maintain long-term customer relationships based on trust and reliability
Requirements
Japanese: Native level (JLPT N2 or above required)
English: Business level (able to work daily with global teams and documentation)
Strong presentation and reporting skills for management and customer-facing communication
10+ years of experience in automotive infotainment or embedded automotive systems
Strong experience with in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems and vehicle interfaces
Experience overseeing IVI architecture, including software and hardware components
Experience with at least one IVI production program, from proposal through series production
Project management experience in the automotive infotainment field (OEM or Tier-1)
Proven experience managing large overseas development teams from Japan
Strong people management and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage schedules, costs, requirements, KPIs, and customer expectations
Comfortable working in cross-cultural, international environments
